In November 2023, our client, a Ukrainian national, contacted our law firm. At that time, he had a free movement card from the Czech Republic, where he had lived and worked with his wife, a Hungarian national. Our client had been working full time in Germany for years when he was asked to leave the country. In December 2023, on behalf of our client, we filed an application for a residence card as a family member of a person entitled to freedom of movement. In spring 2024 during the proceedings, our client's wife became temporarily unemployed and the client received a police subpoena for violating the Residence Act, which led to additional checks. In June 2024, our client was finally issued a residence permit.
